High Performance Coaches Workshop in Robin Hood Country!

Zak Jones in full flow

Attentive delegates
The Welsh Hockey Union held its High Performance Coaching workshop over 2 days earlier this month at the FIH Samsung Champions Trophy in Nottingham. Set up by Mike Leatt as Lead Performance and Vicki Kovacs as Development Support from the WHU Office, it was very well attended by Welsh international squad Head Coaches and Lead Specialists. The main focus was further development of Performance Analysis skills. There was input from Malcolm Wood (WHU’s High Performance Coaching consultant), Stuart Peacock (Sport Wales), Cara Mifflin (Sport Wales and WHU) and both the Wales Men’s and Women’s Senior Squad Head Coaches Zak Jones and Jo Nightingale. The workshop gave the coaches the chance to scout, film, tag, prepare, deliver and discuss presentations using the top class matches at both the FIH tournament and the Men’s 4 Nations event. It was also the perfect opportunity to review the progress of National Academy athletes and others with future potential. The gathering was also a chance for the GB Performance Director, David Faulkner and Welsh Hockey Chief Executive, Helen Bushell to address the group in the lead up to 2012. It is important to maximise the value of all top hockey events held in the Home Nations and the WHU thanks the tournament organisers for their support in helping the workshop run smoothly.
