Whitchurch hit 5 to regain 2nd place

Whitchurch continued their fine home form for the season with a sparkling 5-0 win against Stourport, a result which lifts them back into 2nd place in the EHL Conference West division.  Whitchurch made a great start to the match. Mark Whatling scoring in the second minute following good pressure on the visitors’ defence, and from the restart Whitchurch won a penalty corner which Joe Naughalty dispatched high into the roof of the net to open a two-goal lead.  The Whitchurch defence had to work hard to keep the Stourport forwards at bay but Whitchurch were looking dangerous in attack, Jon Collis distributing the ball well from midfield.  Whitchurch took a firm grip on the game in the last minute of the half, Naughalty scoring his second with a reverse stick shot to give his side a 3-0 lead at the break.  Both sides continued to search for goals in the second period, and seven minutes into the half Whitchurch struck again, Whatling scoring his second after fine work in midfield by Naughalty and Jamie Westerman.  Whitchurch keeper Iwan Williams made a fine double save to prevent Stourport opening their account and then seven minutes from time Laith El Khatib fired home following a fine passing movement in the circle to make the final score 5-0 and round off an impressive team performance by Whitchurch.
