Zone Finals of Activate Hockey
The 17th of June saw the second round of this years Primary Schools Hockey Championship. Six schools from Cardiff (4) and the Vale (2) took part in the Zone Final at Sophia Gardens. With two pool competitions running along side each other, coming top was all important. There were some tightly fought matches in pool A with Eglwys Wen and Llancarfan drawing and St. Helens losing by just one goal to Llancarfan. In the other pool, Severn Primary made it look easy beating Tredegarville 3-0 and Marlborough 4-0. The final saw Llancarfan versus Severn Primary who have some talented players from Cardiff and UWIC HC. After a tense start in was Severn who broke the deadlock and by half time were winning 4-0. Despite a last surge from Llancarfan it was Severn who eventually came out on top winning 6-2. Severn Primary now travel to Newtown Leisure Centre on July 3rd to compete against the best primary schools in Wales. Good luck to Severn Primary.
There were notable performances from several players from all teams and it is hoped that these will look to join a club next season. Thank you to Rebecca Daniels (Sport Cardiff Accredited Coach) for helping with the umpiring and a huge well done to all the teams for getting this far in the competition. The final positions were:
1st - Severn Primary
2nd - Llancarfan Primary
3rd - St. Helens Primary
4th - Marlborough Juniors
5th - Eglwys Wen Primary
6th - Tredegarville Primary
