WSA/scUK/SCW require a Coaching Officer

A new partnership between sports coach UK, Sports Council Wales and the Welsh Sports Association has led to an exciting opportunity for the employment of a generic coaching officer to work with a number of identified Welsh NGB’s to assist them with the development of coaching.

The finals of the Men's and Women's Indoor Club Championships take place over the weekend of 30th and 31st January 2010 at Rhydycar Leisure Centre (Women's: Sat 30th; Men's: Sun 31st).

'ACTIVATE' Welsh Primary Schools Hockey Competition

Enter your school into the 2010 hockey competition before Friday 26th February...

The Activate Hockey is the National Competition for primary schools is known well to schools in Wales. Primary schools enter the seven-a-side mixed knockout competition and play an area round in their county/region. The winning teams go on to a zone final with the winner represents their county/region in the all Wales Final which is held in Maldwyn Leisure Centre, Newtown in July.

South Wales Select v Clifton LHC

This Friday (22nd) Clifton LHC will travel across the bridge to Cardiff and face a unique opposition very different to the EHL Premier Division teams that they are used to playing. At 20:00 the National Hockey Centre at WIS will host an exhibition match where Clifton Ladies will face a South Wales Select team; a barbarian equivalent made up of players from mainly Swansea, Howardians and Penarth. Opportunities to watch a match of such rivalry and entertainment are rare so make it a date in your diary. Entry is £3 for Adults and £2 for U16s.

Coaching research - the latest from scUK

sports coach UK have published their latest issue of their research summary. Welsh Hockey is intrinsically involved in the development of coaching in partnership with the Hockey GB Coaching Strategy Group made up of members from England, Scotland and Wales. Welsh Hockey host the next GB meeting on Monday 18 January at the Welsh Institute of Sport where further progress will be made in finalising the coaching plans for 2010-16.

UK Anti-Doping Procedures

All members should note that a number of changes have been made in the 2010 UK Anti-Doping Procedures Guide for Sport, which came into effect on 1 January 2010. The changes have been outlined in the letter which is available to download below.

Wales launch bids for European Indoor titles

Welsh Hockey's newly formed Senior Indoor squads are travelling to Rouen, France on 14th Jan to compete in the European Challenge II (Men) and European Challenge (Women).

Hockey Organisers Workshop

Powys County Council is running a Hockey Organisers Workshop in February. The course runs for 2.5 hours providing ideas for effective, safe and most importantly fun hockey activities. South Wales Men – Indoor Competition Final Round

Sunday 11th January saw the culmination of the new South Wales Men's Indoor competition with the clubs for the national finals to be held on Sunday 31st January now known.

Time running out to book a place for the International Hockey Experience

Our next trip to Amsterdam is approaching fast, with only 3 months until we leave for the Netherlands! In conjunction with Sport Experiences, Welsh Hockey are looking to take youngsters from all over Wales to the capital city of Holland to enjoy some top-class hockey in a country that is mad about the sport.
