Success at Level 2 in Powys

The first Level 2 course to be held in Powys got off to a successful start on May 22nd. Tutored by Roger Middleton and Steve Edwards, the Level 2 course provided coaches with knowledge to coach the techniques of the game at a level beyond the introductory level and apply them to tactical play and the coaching of teams. Coaches taking this course will qualify as head coaches and take the leading role in delivering sessions. Nine candidates attended the course from local clubs in Powys with a number of coaches also travelling down from Bangor. This is a great achievement for all coaches and clubs involved and will help greatly in raising the standard of hockey in Wales.

RCT year 7 girls hockey tournament

This year, as in previous years, the standard of hockey shown in the competition was fantastic. 8 schools from across Rhondda Cynon Taf took part, over 2 venues with the winners from both pools meeting in a finals day held at Blaengwawr Comprehensive at Aberdare. All the games were very close and in the end just the one goal separated the teams with Hawthorn High school winning for the second year in a row. Judith Powell, the Hockey Development Officer for RCT, "every year I am astounded by the standard of hockey displayed by players of such a young age. All the girls were wonderful, their sportsmanship and behaviour was outstanding and a great credit must go to the PE staff at the schools. I hope that all the girls involved were inspired to carry on playing and now join local teams in their area". For any more information on hockey in RCT please contact Judith on 07790267419 or e mail J.A.Powell@rctcbc.gov.uk
