Brian Tully

We regret to advise the WHU membership that Brian Tully passed away last Thursday night, after a short illness. Dave Maas writes, "We are naturally all totally devastated at the Gwent club. Brian was a long standing member of Cwmbran Hockey Club and was instrumental in helping the merger between Newport and Cwmbran last year into the new Gwent Hockey Club. A fastidious follower of the sport and the oracle as far as the hockey rule book was concerned; he was always available in the pub after a match to debate decisions.

Brian enjoyed his few trips with the Welsh Over 60's, in particular Wrexham in November 2008 and Stirling last May, and was planning on coming on more this year. He leaves no family as his wife sadly died just over a year ago. Keith Davies and Pal Lottay, his loyal drinking companions and close friends from the Club, were with him at the end last Thursday night in the Royal Gwent, Newport." The Funeral service will be held on Friday 19 March at 4.00pm at Gwent Crematorium, Croesyceiliog, Nr Cwmbran NP44 2BZ with donations to Cancer Research in lieu of flowers.
Dave Maas would be grateful if those who anticipate attending the funeral could advise him at davemaas48@aol.com

S Wales U-15 Girls Club Championships

On Sunday 28th February at Swansea on a cold, dry day twelve teams took part in the South Wales qualifying pools of the Women's U-15 Welsh Club Championships. Only the winning team from the three pools would qualify for the Welsh Finals to be played on Sat / Sun 24th / 25th April at the Welsh Institute of Sport, Cardiff. All three pools were very competitive and the girls were all a credit to their coaches showing good on the ball skills and fitness. Swansea Bay, Whitchurch Sts and Penarth all won their pools so qualifying them to take part in the Finals where they will be joined by a team from North Wales.

It was nice to see so many enthusiastic and knowledgeable parents supporting their girls on such a cold day but thanks to the Swansea Ladies café we were all kept well fed and watered!!!
