WALES NAMES THEIR SQUAD FOR
THE EUROPEAN NATIONS TROPHY
Wales have named an unchanged women’s squad from that which
competed in the recent Celtic Cup tournament in Edinburgh. The
squad was to have been named after the three test series
scheduled against Ukraine last weekend, but unfortunately the
series had to be cancelled.
It is a young team and will rely on the experience of captain
Georgie Sharples and goalkeeper Michelle Thomas. Six of the
squad are members of last year’s successful U/21 European Trophy
side and these youngsters provide the impetus for an exciting
period to come in Welsh hockey.
Coach David Griffiths said ‘This group has worked very hard and
are looking forward to the challenge. The cancellation of
matches against Ukraine was disappointing as it would have given
our youngsters further experience’.
The team travels to Spain this week for an eight day
acclimatisation camp, before departing for Baku in Azerbaijan on
2nd September.
