WELSH HOCKEY UNION LAUNCHES NEW COACHING UNIT WITH HIGH PROFILE
RECRUITMENTS
Former Wales Women’s Head Coach Margaret Medlow and former Wales
and England Head Coach Malcolm Wood have been appointed to
consultancy posts within the new Welsh Hockey Coaching Unit.
Funded by a comprehensive grant aid package from the Sports
Council for Wales, the Unit is charged with increasing the
number and standard of coaches and coaching at all levels of
hockey in Wales.
The two consultants will look after specific elements of a
detailed four year Coaching Plan which has been put together in
conjunction with the Sports Council for Wales Coaching Manager,
Mark Frost. Margaret Medlow will look after implementation of
the plan at grass roots level with Malcolm Wood overseeing
delivery at elite levels.
The Unit will be managed by the new Education Development
Manager Chris Marriott who moves up from the Development
Section.
Welsh Hockey Chief Executive Mike Bull said, “This is an
exciting new project made possible by assistance from our major
partners the Sports Council for Wales. I am extremely pleased to
have recruited Chris, Margaret and Malcolm to the Unit. Their
knowledge and experience in coaching will give us a real edge in
taking the coaching of hockey in Wales to new levels”.
