and Chief Executive

Press Release
It is with regret that the Welsh Hockey Union announces that
Mike Bull (Chief Executive Officer) and Alan Rookes (Chairman)
have both tendered their resignations.
Having joined the Union in September 2004, Mike has been the
driving force behind the WHU’s modernisation plans and although
there is still some way to go a large number of initiatives have
already been introduced. Mike has also been highly successful in
obtaining new sponsorship with a number of financial backers,
including Sports Experiences coming on board. HSBC, RAF and
Gilmour Sports are among the other agreements obtained.
Mike will be leaving the Union to take up a new business
opportunity in Spain and we wish him and his family every
success in their new life abroad.
Alan Rookes, who was elected Chairman of the Union in 1997, has
also tendered his resignation. He has very recently obtained a
well-earned promotion into a new role as an Associate Director
of the South Wales office of a large national Civil,
Transportation and Environmental Engineering Consultancy. Alan
feels that the undoubted increase in work will not enable him to
spend as much time as his Union role requires although he will
continue to be spotted on the umpiring circuit most Saturdays.
Under his guidance and leadership the Union has grown from a
small Governing Body with 2 part-time staff to a limited company
with an annual turnover in excess of £750k employing 8 full time
and some 12 part-time staff. He has overseen huge changes in the
Union and his involvement will be sorely missed.
The Union would like to take this opportunity of thanking both
Mike and Alan for their huge involvement and impact on Welsh
hockey.
