WALES UNDER 18 GIRLS LOSE A CLOSE MATCH TO THE HOSTS IN EUROPEAN TROPHY

At the Under 18’s Girls European Hockey Youth Trophy, Wales played the host Nation, Lithuania. Even though the match was played at 18:00 the very hot conditions made playing at a fast pace an additional challenge for the girls.

With some solid play from the back four and midfield, it gave Wales the opportunity to camp in their opponents half for the first twenty minutes. However, Lithuania always looked dangerous on the break and it was from a counter attack that they exposed the Welsh defence and opened their account with a clinically taken goal.

Turning round 0-1 down, Wales started the second half in the same way as the first but despite putting the home team on the defensive for twenty minutes could not convert the pressure into goals. Lithuania scored their second following a rebound off the goalkeepers pads and held off a determined Welsh attack to run out winners 2-0.
