WALES NARROW DEFEAT LEAVES THEM IN A MUST WIN SITUATION

In their second match of the tournament Wales faced France who, like Wales, had also won their first game.

Despite conceding an early goal Wales pulled level after 15 minutes when Robin Cooper forced home a penalty corner, only to fall behind again to an open play goal after 33 minutes. Wales continued to press and before the break went close on a number of occasions.

A Ben Edge penalty flick brought Wales level but the team did not stick to the previously agreed plan and fell behind for the third and final time to another open play goal after 55 minutes.

Coach Ian Ord commented “The result was disappointing considering the committed performance. We could have beaten France if the players had adhered to the game plan. However with Portugal next (who lost to Italy today) it leaves us in a must-win situation if we are to finish in the top two in the pool”.

This next match takes place at 15:00 tomorrow (Wednesday)
