Eurohockey Club Champions Challenge
Cardiff started arguably the most important
game in their history well, silencing the
partisan home crowd with some excellent passing
moves. Cardiff thought they had taken the lead,
after a well worked short corner routine ended
with the ball being dispatched in the net. The
officials after initially giving the goal
controversially changed their minds to the
delight of the home crowd.
Cardiff didn't let this disappointment affect
their performance and deservedly took the lead
through Che Makan after a brilliant passing
move. The lead was doubled just before half time
after Welsh International Mark Ramage converted
from another slick penalty corner routine.
The second half was a goalless tense affair
with minimum chances being created for both
sides but Cardiff had the class to keep the lead
and earn a well-earned promotion to the Trophy
division.
Cardiff management commented that all credit
should go to the players for their
professionalism throughout the tournament in
what was an historic achievement for Cardiff and
Welsh hockey. After having already qualified for
next years tournament, Cardiff are looking
forward to their next challenge of obtaining
promotion again and reaching the coveted Cup
division.
