18th February: Premier Team - English Hockey League
Swansea v St Albans ( H ) 3 - 2 WIN

At the start of this game the two teams had equal points with St Albans just edging the top of the table position on goal difference - with Horsham just 1 point adrift and ready to pounce this was a BIG game for both teams!!

Swansea opened positively and pressurised the visitors with attack after attack forcing many corners which were well defended. The attractive creative play of Swansea was played at a fast pace and the slick passing and movement meant they dominated in terms of territory and possession. After 23mins and at their 9th corner of the match Gemma Petty scored from a tremendous PC strike. She then doubled her tally in the 30th minute - again from a PC strike.

As the first half reached its conclusion Swansea appeared to relax and from a hit out St Albans sprung an attack and Tina Marsh converted a well taken goal from open play. This left a 2-1 score-line at half time and still with all to play for.

St Albans regrouped for the second half and managed to quell the dominance of the home side - this resulted in much of the game being played between the 25yard lines with few clear cut chances being created. As time went on and with such a close score-line the mid-field competition became frantic and fractious and the earlier attractive play was less evident.

Swansea eased the pressure a little in the 58th min when Sarah Sloane scored at the post from a well worked PC routine.

St Albans was not going to give up and they rallied again to take the game to Swansea but the home team organised their defence well and Gemma Petty and Ella Rafferty deserve a mention for their contributions.

In the 66th minute the St Albans pressure was rewarded when Jo Weston scored from a PC - this left the game poised for an exciting final few minutes - thankfully Swansea was up to the challenge and ran out deserved winners at 3 - 2. This result takes Swansea to the top of the table.
