Swansea miss out on top spot
Continued from 'home' page...
Premier Team -
English Hockey League
25th March - v Bedford (H) 2 - 2 DRAW
A few late
injuries and withdrawals meant that a slightly depleted team
traveled to Bedford.
Swansea failed to
cope with the slower sand-based pitch and couldn’t get into
their usual flowing game. The Bedford team was determined to
erase the memory of their last game and played hard to deny the
Swansea skills.
Much against the
run of play the first goal came from a PC in the 10th minute and
went Bedford’s way. Swansea equalised from open play when Nia
completed a fine run down the right and released a well timed
pass to Carys who converted well.
The second half
saw Swansea press forward and force several PCs - in the 51st
min Sian Fowler completed a well worked PC routine at the left
post to take Swansea ahead again. As Swansea tried to forge
their advantage the home side played more determinedly and
frustrated their efforts - the Swansea team started to lose its
composure and with just 8 minutes to play conceded a second goal
to a PC. Despite all their efforts they could not break down the
Bedford defence to take the win they so badly wanted.
The final result
was more disappointing when it was known that Horsham had drawn
their match with St Austell. If the game had followed the form
book and Swansea had taken a win they would have been clear at
the top of the table with just one game to play. What a missed
opportunity!!!
