18th March 2006
Swansea win again
Continued from 'home' page...
Premier Team -
English Hockey League
18th March - v Worcester (H) 4 - 0 WIN
Swansea’s first
objective was to secure a win today and if possible to improve
their Goal Difference tally. They had the lion’s share of the
play throughout the game and put constant pressure on the
visitors - but Worcester’s GK Caroline Tromans played
exceptionally well and frustrated the home team.
The breakthrough
finally came in the 10th minute when Nia Fowler struck a follow
up shot after the initial PC strike was saved. Within 3 minutes
Carys Hopkin had doubled the score from open play . Robyn
Wilford got on the score sheet again when she scored just before
half-time.
Swansea was
determined not to relive the story of their first meeting with
Worcester when they squandered a 3 - 0 lead only to lose the
match! They had stretched their lead to 4 - 0 after 7 mins when
Sarah Sloane scored from a well worked PC slip routine.
Despite total
domination in terms of possession Swansea could not break down
the Worcester defensive line - GK Tromans was immense and her
team mates doggedly stuck to their task.
Swansea achieved
their first and most important objective but the lack of second
half goals was disappointing - especially when Horsham scored 12
against bottom of the table Bedford!!!
