Whitchurch promotion hopes
dealt a blow
Continued from 'home' page...
Whitchurch’s hopes
of promotion were dealt a massive blow when their depleted squad
lost 4-1 at Birmingham University in the EHL National South. The
students, struggling in the relegation zone, took the initiative
from the start, Ed Welch opening the scoring in the third minute
and completing his hat trick with open play goals a minute
before and after the interval. Whitchurch worked hard but missed
their inspirational skipper Jon Willicombe and Welsh
International Jon Collis in midfield. Steve Edmonds made it 4-0
to Birmingham before Rhys Thomas grabbed a consolation goal with
ten minutes remaining. Second placed Oxted were thrashed 11-1 by
leaders Havant, who Whitchurch entertain in a must win game this
Sunday (1.30 start at the Welsh institute of Sport).
