Whitchurch win twice and move away from the relegation zone


Whitchurch enjoyed a successful weekend on the resumption of the Slazenger EHL, beating Firebrands 3-1 and Teddington 4-3, achieving the double on both these sides following the wins in the corresponding double-header in October.

Whitchurch got off to a cracking start against Firebrands, Neil Potter scoring after 5 minutes and Laith El Khatib converting a penalty corner two minutes later.  Marc Patrick pulled a goal back for the home side ten minutes from the interval and in a tense contest there was no further score until a minute from time, when Ben Croxall fired home to make the game safe for Whitchurch.

Against Teddington Whitchurch again started in sparkling form, running up a three-goal lead after 17 minutes with open play goals from Alex Keating, Mark Whatling and Neil Potter.  The visitors weathered the storm and fought back, goals in quick succession from Gareth McKeown and Graham Anderson bringing the score back to 3-2 before Jamie Westerman converted a stroke to give Whitchurch a 4-2 half-time lead.  Whitchurch failed to take a number of goal scoring chances in the second period and there were a few anxious moments at the end after Reuben Koorey pulled a goal back for Teddington from a penalty corner but Whitchurch finished strongly to take maximum points from the weekend and move away from the relegation places.
