Notification of Welsh Hockey Union EGM

As part of modernising the Welsh Hockey Union’s governance structure and in line with the WHU Strategic Plan published in May 2007 to improve direction, management and effectiveness of the NGB, the WHU Board has recommended a change to its size and shape. It is both important and necessary for the membership to consider and approve any proposed adjustments to the WHU governance and the supporting Articles of Association and Bye Laws before any changes can be made. Therefore the AGM planned for the 6th January will be held as an EGM with the express purpose of seeking membership support for Board restructure and other specific proposals to further streamline the governance process.

 

ADVICE TO WHU MEMBERS ON CHANGE
FOR 6th JANUARY GENERAL MEETING

As part of modernising the Welsh Hockey Union’s governance structure and in line with the WHU Strategic Plan published in May 2007 to improve direction, management and effectiveness of the NGB, the WHU Board has recommended a change to its size and shape. It has also recommended formalising the support groups as an integral part of that structure. This will better enable the Board to focus on strategic aspects of the sport whilst investing responsibility for developing and overseeing the operational aspects in the support groups.

The decision to move forward was agreed by Board Members at the recent Planning Day held at the Urdd Centre, Llangrannog on 18th November and ratified at the Board Meeting held the following day. It is the culmination of work commenced in 2005 and more rigorously considered over the past 3 months.

It is both important and necessary for the membership to consider and approve any proposed adjustments to the WHU governance and the supporting Articles of Association and Bye Laws before any changes can be made. Therefore the AGM planned for the 6th January will be held as an EGM with the express purpose of seeking membership support for Board restructure and other specific proposals to further streamline the governance process.

Subject to the outcome of the EGM, the AGM will either be held on 16th March to give potential applicants for election to the Board as Executive Directors with time to consider the revised arrangements, or, if no substantial change is approved, to hold the AGM on 24th February in accordance with current requirements.
