Whitchurch 6, Plymouth Marjon 0
Whitchurch moved up to 5th place in the Slazenger EHL with a comfortable 6-0 home win against visitors Plymouth Marjon.  Whitchurch took control of the game from the start but initially struggled to create openings against a packed Plymouth defence.  All this changed dramatically fifteen minutes into the game as the Whitchurch attack hit top gear to score three goals in a five-minute period.  Jon Collis converted a penalty corner to open the scoring, a minute later Rhys Thomas reacted quickly to force the ball home after a shot by Joe Naughalty had been saved on the line and a few minutes after this Thomas drove into the D and passed to Naughalty, who coolly fired home Whitchurch’s third.  Plymouth created a few chances of their own in the rest of the half, but Whitchurch keeper Iwan Williams brought off a couple of fine saves to frustrate the visitors’ forwards.  In the second period Jon Collis scored his second goal from a penalty corner midway through the half and with five minutes remaining Rhys Thomas finished off a strong run down the right by Joe Naughalty to score his second and Whitchurch’s fifth.  Whitchurch skipper Alex Keating made it six in the last minute, firing a first time shot into the back of the net.

With just two league games remaining Whitchurch are well placed to secure 5th place in the table.  They play Firebrands, one point below them, away this Sunday and end their programme with a home match against bottom side Oxford Hawks the following week.
