Competitions RAF CAREERS - 2007 WELSH BOYS U-11, U-13, U-15 & U-17 CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS Sunday 13th May 2007, Newtown The RAF Welsh Club Youth Finals were, once again, played at Newtown and in true tradition of the event it rained. This however, did not put of the teams and the standard of hockey produced in all age groups was extremely high. For all teams involved it was the end of a tournament which started around February with qualifying rounds followed by North and South Regional Finals. U-11 Clubs
The U-11 title culminated in a victory for Swansea who were run close by Brecon who were playing in the finals fore the first time. Despite the continued rain the level of competition was impressive with the standard continuing to improve each year. U-13 Clubs
In the U-13 competition the final game between Cardiff and Swansea (who were both taking part in the competition after for the first time in a number of years) was a winner take all match with Cardiff coming out on top.
Whitchurch 6 v Colwyn Bay 2
U-17 Clubs Whitchurch 5 v Colwyn Bay 2 Both the U-15 and U-17 finals were contested by the same clubs as last year. Two excellent games were seen with a number of youth internationals playing for either side. Despite the best efforts of Colwyn Bay they could not stop Whitchurch repeating their successes of the previous year which led to a clean sweep of the titles by the South sides. It was the first time that Brecon and Dysynni had taken part in the finals and shoes that the effort being put into both clubs at youth level is working. As organiser I would like to thank the people who made the day possible. The umpires who provided an extremely high level of officiating over all the age groups, the representatives from Welsh Hockey and the staff at Maldwyn Leisure Centre. Thanks must also go to the RAF for their continued sponsorship as without their support this event would not be as successful as it is. John Taylor
