Whitchurch fail to hold onto lead and go down to Ipswich
Whitchurch let slip a 2-1 interval lead to lose 3-2 at Ipswich in their last Slazenger EHL match before the mid-season break on 25th November. Having conceded a goal in the first minute Whitchurch responded well and took the game to Ipswich with a series of quality moves. Laith El Khatib brought Whitchurch level after fifteen minutes, firing home a penalty corner, and ten minutes later Jon Collis and El Khatib combined brilliantly to set up a far post chance for Mark Whatling, who converted well to put Whitchurch into a deserved lead. Ipswich pressed hard early in the second half but the Whitchurch defence coped well with the pressure, Chris Gierak in goal making some fine saves. Whitchurch almost increased their lead from a great counter-attack but midway through the half Ipswich pulled level, Keir Dixon scoring from a penalty corner and as the game opened up with both sides pressing for the win the same player was on hand with five minutes remaining to net from open play and consign Whitchurch to a disappointing defeat.
Whitchurch remain ninth in the National South Division table, just above the relegation zone.
