Level 1 Umpire Award

This is the first step on the officiating ladder in competitive hockey i.e. local leagues etc. It is a national recognised qualification for active, qualified umpires. Non-active Level 1 Award umpires will not be featured on the active list of umpires. The maintenance and development of the Level 1 Award is primarily the responsibility of the Regional Associations. The aim therefore of Level 1 Award must is to provide all umpires with the knowledge, understanding and skills to pass the Level 1 Umpiring award and become a respected, effective and honest umpire.

The requirements are:

1. To have attended a seminar on the rules and knowledge of hockey and the role of the umpire;

2. To have passed an oral test;

3. To have been watched by an "appointed member" of the Association;

4. To have been recommended by an "appointed member" for inclusion at this grade.
