Umpire Coach - Level 2

This Award is designed for individuals who are committed to improving the skill and performance of umpires above club and regional level. It offers candidates the opportunity to extend their own coaching experience as well as acquire the skills that are required to fulfil a mentoring or assessment role for Level One Umpire Coach candidates.

To become a Level Two Umpire Coach candidates need to:

Provide coaching for umpires up to and including Regional level;

Apply personal knowledge and experience to enable umpires to improve their own performance;

Observe, assess and provide verbal and written feedback for umpires to help them improve their performance;

Enable an umpire's understanding of the national umpiring structure and provide available advice;

Plan, organise, assess and provide feedback to umpires to help correct errors and improve their performance;

Act as a mentor and assessor for Level One Umpire coaches.

REGISTRATION

Candidates who would like to gain the Level Two Umpire Coach award should be at least a Level Two Umpire, a member of a Regional Umpire Association or be able to demonstrate a sound working knowledge of the Rules of hockey and umpiring skills. A National Committee or Regional Umpiring Association should nominate candidates and provide curriculum vitae, including all relevant coaching experience, to the National Chief Coach with the Candidate Registration Form.


ASSESSMENT
To become a Level Two Coach the following assessment will have been successfully completed:

Attend a coach assessment at a regional event that is organised by a Regional Umpiring Association;

Coach match umpires under the supervision of an assessor - usually a Level Three Umpire Coach and provide verbal feedback to the umpire;

Provide written performance feedback for umpires who are being coached;

Produce a logbook that records all coaching activity and is handed to an assessor before assessment.

MAINTAINING THE AWARD

Level Two Umpire Coaches must renew their registration every five years. To renew, existing coaches should:

Demonstrate ongoing involvement in coaching commensurate with the Level Two Award and by keep a logbook of related activity. The logbook will need to be produced for verification whenever an authorised representative of a recognised association or committee requires it;

Attend a refresher seminar at least once every five years.
