Four Counties Challenge
The following counties are taking part in a competition which is being piloted with a view to this becoming the approach to county hockey across South Wales in future years.
The four teams involved are:
Afan Nedd Tawe
South East Wales (see photos below)
Cardiff
Glamorgan Valleys
Over the next few weeks these counties will play each other (at U14 and U16 level) once in a league table format.
They shall receive 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, and 0 points for a loss. There will also be a Top Scorers table and Most Valuable Player table which is decided by the opposition. Goalkeepers will also be recognised for not conceding any goals.
On December 9th 2007, the teams will meet at Swansea for a play-off competition to decide the final positions.
The 1st placed team in the league will play the 4th placed and 2nd placed in the league will play the 3rd placed. The winners of these games will play in the final to decide the overall winner. The 'Top Scorer', 'Most Valuable Player' and 'Top Goalkeeper' will also be recognised.
The Welsh Hockey Union hopes that the pilot scheme will be successful and will help to both raise the profile of hockey in South Wales and continue to attract girls to play hockey at school level and beyond.
