LOCAL ELITE TALENT
IDENTIFICATION CAMPS (LETS)
The LET’s is the first stage to representing the Welsh Junior Academy and
aims to give athletes early exposure to the requirements of
international hockey. Athletes are nominated by selected individuals who
base their criteria on their future possibility of representing Wales.
The target age for the LET’s is U14 and U15.
The one day camp is coached by current international athletes and
coaches and is held in each of the three regions; South West (Swansea),
South East (Cardiff) and North Wales (Wrexham). It aims to encompass
three key areas:
|
|
|
| |
- |
Technical – where the core basic skills that are a standard
requirement for international hockey will be taught. |
| |
- |
Tactical – understanding structures and strategies of the
elite hockey game |
| |
- |
Physical – where the athletes will be submitted to the
following tests: |
| |
- |
Multistage Fitness Test |
| |
- |
Yard Stick |
| |
- |
Press-up Test |
Athletes are constantly challenged to step
out of their comfort zone and develop water based hockey skills. The day
begins with the fitness testing and then develops onto technical
development. The coaches are able to assess their tactical knowledge
with game related play at the end of the camp. The athletes are assessed
on five criteria:
|
|
|
| |
- |
Athleticism |
| |
- |
Technical |
| |
- |
Coachability |
| |
- |
Tactical |

Following the completion of the LET’s in the
three regions athletes are informed if they have been successful and
have progressed through to the NET’s. Those athletes who were felt not
to be ready at the LET’s level have another opportunity to progress
through the regional hockey structures where coaches will be observing
their development.
Whilst the 2005 LET’s have already been held the dates for 2006 LET’s
will be published here as soon as they have been agreed.
