NATIONAL ELITE TALENT
IDENTIFICATION CAMPS (LETS)
The NET’s encompass athletes who have been identified at the LET’s camps
plus the Welsh based athletes from the previous year’s Junior academy.
This two-day camp aims to build upon the skills developed at the LET’s
and introduce more advanced core skills. The target age is still U14 and
U15.The camp is held during the October half-term and is coached by
current international athletes and coaches. The camp brings together the
top athletes from throughout Wales and encompasses the same three areas
as the LET’s. This ensures that the athletes are clear on which areas
they need to improve on and aids the coaches to see any development made
from the LET’s.
The physical element encompasses the same testing procedures and am
improvement from LET’s is expected. The technical element is revisited
and then carrying the ball, tackling and goal scoring are introduced.
The specific technical requirements of goal keeping are focused on by
specialist coaches. The focus of the camp still remains on developing
basic skills while under pressure and fatigued in order to replicate the
demands of international hockey.
The evening is filled with lectures on nutrition and an introduction
to the benefits of Sport Psychology. Current internationals lead a
question and answer session where the athletes are able to find out the
requirements and demands placed upon an international hockey player.
Athletes are assessed on the same five areas as LET’s and individual
feedback is made available to all the athletes.
Whilst the 2005 NET’s have already been held
the dates for 2006 NET’s will be published here as soon as they have
been agreed.
