U13 PROGRAMME
The U13 programme aims at extending our Performance section in order to
gain access to athletes at an earlier age where technical flaws can be
corrected quickly. It is vital for the development of elite hockey
within Wales that grass roots level is developed and as such the U13
programme aims to develop both athletes and coaches.
The U13 programme is run in both North and South Wales for boys and
girls and is overseen by the regional academy coach. Athletes are
nominated by clubs, schools, county secretaries and talent
identification officers. Athletes will only be able to be considered for
the U13 programme if they are U13 by the 1st January in the year of
competition.
Once athletes are nominated they are invited to attend one day camps
held over the summer holidays, which aims to increase technical and
tactical understanding. From an initial group of athletes a South Wales
boys and girls squad are selected to play against North Wales during the
October half-term.
