CLUBS & YOUNG PEOPLE

Youth Hockey Activator Programme

The WHU has long recognised the need to increase youth interest in volunteering and its Youth Hockey Activator Programme is the established vehicle for generating the hockey volunteers of the future. The Programme is now entering its eighth year and continues to provide young people aged 16-21 with unique opportunities to develop their coaching, umpiring, sports administration and/or development skills. Activators are inducted to the Programme at an annual Recruitment Conference and thereafter are mentored by either their local Hockey Development Officer, a senior member of their club, their school hockey coordinator, or a combination of all three. The WHU invites clubs and schools to nominate suitable young people for the Programme, and selects candidates on the basis of their commitment to the sport, their current involvement in hockey e.g. coaching / umpiring / hockey club duties etc, or simply their desire to get involved and make a difference. The WHU would like every club in Wales to have at least one Activator by 2013.
