WHU NEWS: NOVEMBER 2009

2009 PDCs conclude with final competition in Wrexham

Sunday 1st November saw more than 100 players take part in the final Inter Performance Development Centre (PDC) competition held at Glyndwr University, Wrexham. Players from the U17 and U15 age groups took part in a round-robin format competition involving the North Wales Coast, North East Wales, Montgomeryshire and Cardigan Bay PDCs.

Regional Academy Coaches attended the event to determine which players should be invited to attend the Regional Academies which start in November and will be held in both Wrexham and Colwyn Bay. PDCs are the primary route for players with potential to be selected into Regional Academies and Welsh National Age Group squads.

Players from across Wales have been attending PDC’s throughout September and October on a weekly basis receiving expert coaching from a team of qualified and experienced coaches. Performance Development Centres are a key part of the WHU's Player Pathway, located between club junior sections and Regional Academies. The WHU aims to set up 12-16 PDCs throughout Wales in partnership with local clubs that have a good track record of running junior coaching programmes and suitably qualified coaches. In addition, coaches from other local clubs and schools are encouraged to get involved, as PDCs aim to develop coaches as well as players.
