Great Britain Super League: A roaring success in Cardiff!

The 2009 Great Britain Super League got off to a sizzling start last weekend at the Welsh Institute of Sport, Cardiff. More than 280 players, coaches and officials showcased their talent during the ten matches played over two days. The Pennine Pumas are leading the way in both the men’s and women’s tournaments. The Celtic Panthers Men and Women will be looking towards this weekend at Cannock to notch up their first win of the 2009 campaign.

Wales U-16 Girls win three match test series

Wales travelled to Glasgow for a three test series versus Scotland U16 Girls over the Easter holiday.

Wales name National Indoor Management Teams

Following it’s decision to re-enter the international indoor hockey scene, the WHU has completed the appointments of the coaching and management teams for the Wales Men's and Women's squads.

New Indoor rules

The WHU and WHUA have agreed that the new Indoor hockey rules will become mandatory for all indoor hockey with effect from 1st September. This will coincide with the introduction of the new outdoor rules as on the same date. The main changes relate to the ‘self-pass’ and the introduction of ‘time-outs’.

Whitchurch and Swansea Ladies retain titles

The holders of the two Welsh Cups retained their titles with Swansea Ladies beating Howardian Ladies 3-1 and Whitchurch overcoming their City neighbours, Cardiff & UWIC on penalty strokes after a 1-1 draw following extra time.

Other winners were Swansea University in the Men’s Shield and Whitchurch Saints in the Ladies version with Cardiff & UWIC and Swansea Ladies both winning their respective 2nd Xl Cup finals.

Great Britain Superleague comes to Cardiff!

Come and support the CELTIC PANTHERS!!! This April the big cats will be back once again for Great Britain Super League. The annual competition, now in its third year, is aimed at talent identification and will commence on the 18th of April at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff. This year the men’s competition will be back up to six teams with the reintroduction of the Highland Jaguars and Wessex Leopards. The women’s competition will follow the same structure as 2008 with a four team competition.

Girls U-16 Squad details released

The Girls U-16 squad has been announced who will now join the U16 boys in the trip to take on Scotland over the Easter weekend where both squads will play a three test series in Glasgow.
